Hair Transplant Docs in the Boston area

I was wondering if anyone can comment on Dr. Distefano in the Boston area? Is he any good?

Also, I noticed Dr. Leonard of Boston/Providence is on the IAHRS recommended list here. Anyone have any experience with him?

You should probably get at least 2 opinions. I know Dr.'s Destefano and Leonard. They both perform high quality hair restoration and will at the very least give you an honest recommendation. You should find out what all of your options are before making any decisions.

Thanks for replying Dr. Charles. I'm concerned about consulting with them because in searching this and other forums online I haven't been able to find any patients that are willing to vouch for these Drs in a positive way.

I wouldn't limit your search to local surgeons only, particularly if you haven't been able to find much in the way of positive testimonies or results. Geographic location should really be a secondary concern, particularly when considering such an expensive procedure with results that will last a lifetime.

If you do find a non-local physician whose results you really admire, know that a number of top physicians offer free online consultations so that you can limit the need to make multiple out-of-state visits prior to a procedure.

Just my two cents! Best wishes with whatever you decide to do!

Dr. Leonard still appears to be doing mini/micro grafting b/c he says it gives greater density; but I think it's an old style of HT and more suspect for being artificial when viewed up close.

Thanks tremblant... I wonder why Dr. Leonard is on the IAHRS recommended list if he is not doing state of the art HTs??

I have not been able to find any patients who will vouch for this Drs results. I had a chance to talk to one of his former patients who warned me to stay away. One thing he said was he will not give a graft count so you can't get a good idea of what you are going to get. Do you think this is because he does mini/micro grafting?

I also have not been able to find any patients who will recommend Dr. Distefano either. I talked to a couple of former patients and they both told me to keep looking. I have cancelled my appointments with these guys for now. I have to say I'm a getting somewhat concerned about this whole HT business after looking into it bit. Can anyone recommend a good Dr in the NY area maybe?

Dr. Robert True in NYC is one that I am considering, got a good feeling from him.

Yes, I was looking at Dr. True as a possibility too. Did you meet with him in Boston? Did he happen to do a densiometry/miniaturization test on your scalp during the consult?

I was also looking into Dr. Feller as there are many posts that seem positive from his patients. It appears that he does require that you shave the recipient area though. Not a big deal I guess but something to consider.

                  Hi Marchap,
I met with Dr. True at his surgical office in NYC. I understand that he does come to Boston one day a week or month? So you could meet him there for a consult. He did look at my scalp and didn't give me a density # but told me it was thick and good donor characteristics.

Drs. Feller and Bernstein are two docs in NYC that seem to be getting great reviews from posters on this site as well.

Hair transplant for 21 yr old

My son is quite distressed as his hairline (which was pretty high to start with) has receded quite significantly in the past two years. My brother (his maternal uncle) began the same pattern at the same age and by early 30s was almost totally bald. As my son is an actor he is very worried about this - he's been Nioxin System 1 for 2 years. Would he be a candidate for a hair transplant at this point?

If your son is an actor, and is concerned about keeping his hair, he should be aware that Nioxin doesn't work. The only chance he has is to use a medication called propecia. Propecia, also known as finasteride, interferes with the DHT process that causes male pattern baldness. It is the only medication that has been proven to work for most people. I'm 29 and after using Propecia, I still have most of my hair even though I started balding at 24.

Did you finally get a ht? If so with who? I have an appt with Dr True for next week. I also plan on a consultation with Dr Feller. I received ht in the past and am not totally satisfied. This is why it is important to meet with as many Dr as possible
                          Good luck

New England Center for Hair Restoration is who I'm currently considering. They seem to have the least scarring.

Are you considering both FUT and FUE?
