Is it normal for Minoxidil to cause terrible itching and flaking?

    Hey Guys,

I've been using Kirkland Minox 5% liquid (and Dutasteride) for some time now, and it's always made my scalp itch and flake terribly bad. I mean, I brush my hair and it starts snowing in the sink. I never had any real dandruff prior to starting Minoxidil. The foam doesn't really cause the same issues. I'm wondering if its a PG allergy or reaction or if its just something I should deal with while using minoxidil? I'm working on tapering off, but I want to try to avoid a major shed.

I hadn't really noticed an improvement in my hair, but it could be that its hard to control my scratching in the treatment areas.

Does anyone else have these issues?

Everyone responds differently to minoxidil. I don't get any itching or redness, but I do get a slight headache on my temples (where I use minoxidil). You should visit a dermatologist.

Use foam. It's much easier on the skin. Minoxidil Liquid did the same thing to my scalp. If I missed a shower the next day my scalp would be itchy, red, and flaking. It's the PPG in Minox Liquid.

Had the same problem with the liquid myself. Been told the foam doesn't have the same issues but have not tried it yet.

You can also buy this stuff off of eBay and have it shipped to your house. When I was buying the liquid Rogaine I was getting a three pack for the same price as a single bottle. So cheaper even than the Kirkland product.

No, maybe you are allergic to Minoxidil. Try changing the product to an organic treatment.

You can change minoxidil 5 % to minoxidil 10% lotion with the different brand available with us. If you find still it gives scalp reaction then you can use anti allergy pills like levocetrizine.

i had a little minor itch the first couple of days and then it went away. I get random stomach cramps and dry eyes now which i think is from the minoxidil.

I haven't tried the foam, but searched google for any information about where to buy it. Visit Ebay, Amazon, walmart.

Most liquid type minoxidol will cause scalp irritation, most foam minoxidol like Regaine will cause 0 side effects.
