Is the male pattern baldness crown thinning?

Some background info first, 25 Asian Male. Maternal grandfather lost hair at around 40, now completely bald, uncles all fine though. Males on father's side all still have hair with varying degrees of general thinness but no significant receding or bald spots.

I've always kept my hair long-ish so I never really paid attention to the possibility of mpb, since my hairline/hair always looked fine to myself in the mirror. However, after entering the military last year, I had to shave my head and I noticed some spots that looked thin in the mirror. It was hard taking pictures as the lighting/angle kept changing, but I'm pretty sure I have crown thinning, mainly the small patch on top of my head in front of the vertex. My mom keeps saying that's just my swirl and how it's always been but I'm not so sure.

Am I a good candidate to hop on finasteride/rogaine? I'm currently looking for a dermatologist in my area to get a professional opinion/prescription, but judging by the posts here, you guys also seem to have a lot of experience looking at hair. I will appreciate greatly any input.

    Thanks!
